Yes, all three games and your progress dashboard are free to play. WordSensei is supported by the ads shown on the site, which cover our servers and development. We may add optional paid features for advanced analytics in the future, but the core will always be free.
Yes, and it is worth saying that most people who ask this are further along than they think. If you can read this page, comprehension is not your problem. What is missing is usually production: recalling the right word quickly enough to use it. Start with the easier word sets and work up.
Duolingo teaches a language from the ground up: listening, grammar, reading, the lot. WordSensei assumes you already have the language and are stuck on range, which is the usual position for someone who works or studies in English but did not grow up in it. Different problem, different tool. Using both is perfectly reasonable.
No. WordSensei runs entirely in your browser on desktop or mobile. Nothing to install, nothing to update.
English vocabulary is our focus for now. However, we're expanding the interface to support more native languages so learners can navigate the platform in their own language.
We add new word sets regularly, grouped by topic, difficulty, and root. There's always something new to challenge yourself with.
Advertising is what pays for the servers and the time spent building word sets, which is how every game stays free with no subscription. You choose whether the ads you see are personalised: accept on the cookie banner and they are, decline and you get non-personalised ads instead. You can change that decision at any time on the Cookie Policy page.
