Our Story

WordSensei started as a side project. No funding, no office, no grand plan. Just a frustration that most vocabulary tools were built around selling subscriptions, not around how memory actually works. So we built our own.

English changed our lives.
We want it to change yours.

Our Mission

Most learners plateau after the basics. They test at B1 or B2 but freeze mid-sentence in real conversation. Vocabulary is the bottleneck, and almost no free tool takes it seriously. WordSensei targets that gap specifically.

Our Vision

We're building toward a platform that tracks which words you keep missing, then drills those specifically. Not a fixed curriculum. A system that adjusts to you, in your language, at the point where you actually get stuck.

What We Stand For

Our core values

This isn't a new theory. Memory research has been saying it for decades. Most learning apps just haven't built their products around it.

  • 01

    Honesty over hype

We don't promise fluency in 7 days. Vocabulary takes time. We just make that time more effective.

  • 02

    Access over profit

Free means free. No hidden tiers, no bait-and-switch. Every game, every resource, available without a credit card.

  • 03

    Science over trends

Every game mechanic traces back to memory research. Active recall, spaced repetition, contextual learning. Not guesses.

  • 04

    Learners over metrics

We'd rather have 1,000 users who actually improve than 100,000 who open the app once and never come back.

The team behind WordSensei

The People Behind It

Built by people who learned the hard way

Nobody on this team has a linguistics degree. We're developers and educators who watched people around us plateau at conversational English. Grammar sorted. Vocabulary decent. Still freezing mid-sentence when the conversation got real.

That's the gap we're building for. Not learning from scratch. Fixing the distance between knowing a language and using it under pressure.

Content creation at WordSensei

How We Create Content

One question before anything gets published

Does this help someone use English better, or does it just look like content? Every article and word list has to pass that test before it goes up.

We write for the learner who has been studying for months and still can't hold a full conversation. That person needs fewer, better sources. Not more of the same.

We prioritize high-frequency vocabulary that appears in real conversations, professional settings, and academic contexts — words that actually matter for intermediate and upper-intermediate learners.
Lessons require discipline. Games create the discipline automatically. When you're mid-streak, you don't need motivation to keep going. The game handles that.
WordSensei is built for learners who already have a basic grasp of English and want to expand their vocabulary meaningfully. Complete beginners may find it challenging at first.
Yes. We collect only what's needed to run the platform. We don't sell your data and never will. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
No. Free access is a core value, not a temporary strategy. We may offer optional premium features in the future, but everything that exists today stays free.
