WordSensei started as a side project. No funding, no office, no grand plan. Just a frustration watching capable people get read as less capable than they were, because the word they needed did not arrive in time. Most vocabulary tools are built around selling subscriptions rather than around how memory works, so we built our own.
English is the working language of a huge share of the world's professional life, and for most of the people using it, it is a second language learned deliberately. Those people are rarely held back by grammar. They are held back by range: the gap between understanding a word and being able to reach for it. We want to close that gap, and we want it to cost nothing.
A learner should never be the reason their own ideas land smaller than they deserve to. We are building toward a platform that notices which words you keep missing and drills those specifically, in your own language, at the exact point you get stuck. Not a fixed curriculum. Something that adapts to the rooms you are actually in.
None of this is our theory. It comes from published memory research, some of it more than a century old. What we did was build the games around it instead of around a word list.
We don't promise fluency in 7 days. Vocabulary takes time. We just make that time more effective.

That is the whole reason this exists. Everything else, the games, the word sets, the streaks, is just the machinery for closing that gap.
Nobody on this team has a linguistics degree. We're developers and educators who watched people around us plateau at conversational English. Grammar sorted. Vocabulary decent. Still freezing mid-sentence when the conversation got real.
That's the gap we're building for. Not learning from scratch. Fixing the distance between knowing a language and using it under pressure.

We write for the learner who has been studying for months and still can't hold a full conversation. That person needs fewer, better sources. Not more of the same.
