The short version
WordSensei is a free vocabulary game. We collect the minimum data needed to run the platform: your account details, your game progress, and, if you redeem points, the mobile wallet number we send the reward to. Advertising is what keeps the service free. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. If you're under 13, you need a parent or guardian to create an account.
This policy covers all visitors to wordsensei.com and anyone who creates a WordSensei account. By using WordSensei, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
WordSensei is operated by the WordSensei team. When this policy says "we," "us," or "our," it means WordSensei.
What we collect
We collect data in three ways: directly from you, automatically when you use the site, and through third-party services we use to run the platform.
| Data type | What it includes | Why we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Account info | First name, last name, email address | To create and manage your account |
| Google sign-in | Name, email, and profile picture from Google | To let you sign in without a password |
| Game data | Scores, streaks, word history, accuracy, session times | To show your progress and personalise your experience |
| Reward account details | Mobile wallet number you enter for reward payouts | To send a reward when you redeem points |
| Technical data | IP address, referral source, cookies | To keep the service running and detect fraud |
| Referral codes | The code used to sign up (if any) | To credit referrals and give bonus XP |
When you sign in with Google, we receive only the data Google shares: your name, email address, and profile picture. We don't receive your Google password or any other Google account data. You can revoke access to WordSensei at any time through your Google account settings.
How we use your data
We use your data to run WordSensei, improve the experience, and keep the platform free through advertising.
- Create and manage your account so you can log in and access your progress across devices
- Track your streaks, scores, and word history so you can see how you're improving
- Personalise the game experience based on your performance and vocabulary level
- Process reward redemptions and pay the reward to the mobile wallet number you provide
- Serve ads through our advertising partners to keep the platform free
- Send account-related emails like password resets or important policy updates
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security issues
- Process referral codes and award bonus XP correctly
We don't use your data to build psychological profiles, make automated decisions that affect you in a significant way, or send unsolicited marketing without your consent.
How advertising works on WordSensei
WordSensei is free to use. Advertising is how we keep it that way. Ads on WordSensei are supplied by Google AdSense, which is our ad provider.
Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Users who wish to opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising may visit www.aboutads.info/choices/. Opting out stops ads being personalised to you. It does not remove ads from the site.
Advertising cookies are set by Google from domains including google.com, doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com and googleadservices.com. Through them, Google and its partners may receive your IP address, browser and device information, and the pages you view, and may use that information to select and measure ads. How Google handles this data is governed by Google's own terms, not ours. You can read the details in How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps.
Where consent is required, we collect it through the cookie banner shown on your first visit. You can change that choice at any time on our Cookie Policy page. Until you give consent, advertising and measurement storage stay switched off.
We do not serve behaviourally targeted advertising to users who identify as minors, and we do not pass your name, email address, or reward account details to advertisers.
Children's privacy
WordSensei is designed to be safe for students of all ages. We take children's privacy seriously and follow applicable laws including COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) in the United States.
Children under 13 may not create a WordSensei account without verifiable parental consent. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to create an account for you or to provide consent before you register.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has created an account without your knowledge, please contact us at contact.wordsensei@gmail.com and we will promptly delete the account and all associated data.
For users aged 13 to 17, we recommend a parent or guardian review this privacy policy with them. We limit the data we collect from younger users and do not serve behaviourally targeted advertising to users who identify as minors.
Sharing your data
We don't sell your personal data. We share it only in the following cases.
| Who | What we share | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google (sign-in) | Authentication tokens | To verify your identity when you use Google sign-in |
| Google AdSense | Cookies, IP address, page visit data | To serve and measure the ads that keep WordSensei free |
| Reward payment channel | The mobile wallet number you gave us, and the reward amount | To send the payout when you redeem points |
| Hosting & infrastructure | All data processed on our servers | To store and serve the platform |
| Law enforcement | What is legally required | To comply with valid legal requests |
If WordSensei is ever acquired or merged with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you before that happens and before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. When we do, we update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we'll notify you by email or by showing a notice on the site when you log in next.
Continuing to use WordSensei after a policy update means you accept the revised terms. If you don't agree with the changes, you can delete your account before they take effect.
